We are looking to support individuals who demonstrate the potential to be great managers of entreprenurial businesses. They need to be responding to existing customer demand for solutions to real problems and opportunities.
We look for management who are chasing potentially sizeable markets, who demonstrate powerful selling skills and who understand the virtue of developing their opportunity with appropriately modest net cash burn rates.
We like defensibility in our portfolio companies, whether that is derived from patents or accumulated know-how.
We believe that good investor returns are derived from a focus on capital efficiency. We need to be able to see that the funding we provide at any one financing round will allow the company to deliver tangible progress before fresh capital is required.
Sussex Place Ventures is looking to invest in science-based businesses, information and technology opportunities and great entrepreneurs who can execute with passion and panache.
Finally, we will not invest in drug-discovery businesses or other businesses which from the outset clearly will require very substantial amounts of capital before they deliver an operating profit.
